The Kids Choice Awards is hosted annually by the children's television network Nickelodeon, and therefore why it had never occurred to me to be on the lookout for celebrities donned in risque outfits while walking the orange carpet. I mean who thought an awards show where slime pours out onto the stage could host the same wardrobe malfunctions as an event where people drink beer and commercials use sex to sell their products?

When I initially saw Rihanna’s award show ensemble I thought, "OK, the turquoise nails, polka-dot corset top, and baggy pants may be pushing it. But hey, give the girl a break—she's young and hot, she could pull it off."

Then when I saw that "the girls" couldn't fill out the already-questionable top, I wondered, "What's she thinking!?" Who dressed this girl in this ill-fitting outfit? After careful view of several photos of the singer in this ensemble, it's evident that the corset is too big for her bust, and the youngsters watching the program almost got a glimpse of Rihanna's nipple!

Rihanna, have you learned nothing from that Janet Jackson fiasco? When it comes to risque outfits, please do stop the music!

What's better than an adorable, new spring handbag? How about an adorable handbag that's also good for the environment? When I saw this colorful purse on Ugly Betty, the shopper in me said, "Gotta have it!"

When I found out that the bag was made from recycled juice packs and nylon rice bags (it sounds weird, I know) my tree-hugging self knew I couldn't live without it! (Ahem, I do try to recycle my water bottles whenever I can.)

I employed my detecting (errr ... shopping) skills, so here's the 411: The bag was made by Half the Sky Designs and it's part of their REBAGZ collection, which come in a variety of shapes and styles at www.halftheskydesigns.com.

• Hot/bright light jacket: This parka from Kohl's is only $50! It's going to go great with dark denim (definitely skinny jeans) and anything white.
• Party dress: You can't go wrong with Isaac Mizrahi for Target. I saw this adorable A-line dress, and I'm ordering it as we speak. (Planning to wear it to a casual day wedding in April!)
• Neutral everyday bag: It's time for me to put away my quilted eggplant handbag (I'm sooo over it—it's too fall/winter '07), and use something with a little less pizzazz but that will go with the bright colors I'll be sporting in the spring. Ladies, don't forget my rule—too much of a good thing (like the yellows and fuchsias of today) can be crippling to one's style. If you're going to go colorful in tops and bottoms, stay beige and earthy when it comes to accessories. For instance, I'm getting this canvas satchel from Forever 21.
• Versatile top (as in, a shirt that can be cas' or dressy): This sleeveless shirt from Old Navy does the trick. It's only $15, and I can wear it with dress pants for work or a pair of bermuda shorts for a family barbeque.
• Funky sandals: Spring is the time to really go all out and experiment with colors and new styles (for me anyways). When I laid my eyes on these T-strap sandals from Newport News, it was like love at first sight. The $39 platforms stack up to my "funky" expectations.

Now it's your turn. What's on your spring must-have list?

Intimidating, somewhat, but leads the way for a beautifully sophisticated, minimal (new direction!) collection from Francisco Costas for Calvin Klein. It's structured and architectural. Amazing boiled wool tail coats in gray and black graced the runway. As did cozy cocoons of wool felt with oversized snap closures. For evening, how about black satin pants with vests (my fave vest), wool with a cut-out back. (Want it!)

There were also sequined dresses mixed with boiled wool trim, a great black oversized blazer worn by Liya (love seeing her on the runway, she always looks so calm). The gowns are Lurex pleats in plum, and a greeny/gray, really the only relief from black. The girls are slicked back pony-tailed androids, and as usual at a Calvin show, I feel I have on too much makeup, too much hair, and my clothes are too bright. Great.

Over in makeup, Romy Soleimani with MAC is creating a fresh, washed-out version of a late '70s dreamer: teal eye with a little gold sparkle. A lip she calls "lingerie" (actually 3N MAC) and soft contour on the cheeks. Very pretty. Rebecca Taylor's girl is inspired by Charlotte Gainsburgh, (my total fave) and a woman that is an aristocrat, but has lost everything and apparently has to live off her inheritance. Phew. Glad that was cleared up.

I like the gray coat worn over a gold dress with a leather newsboy hat, the black chiffon gown with a crop brown leather jacket, and the gold and black leather jacket that's flashy. Little felt '50s hats (another trend alert), flat roll-down cuff boots in plum and bright, chunky jewelry give the models individuality, and makes this collection all about personal styling. The beautiful dress with the cream collar right up to the model's lipstick makes me worry about dry cleaning bills. All-in-all, it was a beautiful mood with real clothes (casual but seriously made with much attention to detail), a collection that wants you to take a 2nd look.

Geometric shapes of the '80s, but reinterpreted in warm, earthy colors (for now) graced the runway. Bleached jeans and huge dolman/batwing sleeves send me spiraling back to the scary decade, but at least it isn't Dynasty cobalt blue. Laurent Philippon is doing my fave hair. Glam rock, sexy and urban. A one-inch barrel iron, Bumble & Bumble styling wax with a sprinkling of Laurents dry shampoo, which grabs onto the wax, creating a thick and "dirty" look. It is very good.

There is photographers' war going on out there. The stage is set with fake photogs at one end of the runway, right opposite the real guys and girls. Black dresses and jumpsuits come out. As do great layers of sweaters and shirts. Proportions are fun, with shirts hanging out with narrow jeans or super-baggy. Then I see oversized jackets, but without big shoulders, the coolest padded leather arm-warmers. Next, silk parachute pants, a fur jerkin and T-shirts. Then, washed denim, baggy-pegged jeans ... I'm scared, but strangely into it.

Massimo from Molton Brown does my hair, and a lady from Jane Iredale does my makeup. Robert and I compare stories (his are better), and I feel better. It's brilliant to be quiet for an hour, and he kindly gives me his driver to take me up to the tents. I almost feel human. I miss my children. 

Monique Lhuillier is on the books for this morning, and she is truly sumptuous.

There's an incredible cocktail dress with feathers and a sparkly top, some tartan mixed with print brocade, and a definite turn towards a big skirt with a leaner top. The hair is a messy french twist, the makeup consists of oh-so-light golden eyes. And the shoes--pink and brown Louboutin platforms (some with tortoiseshell). I scream a little bit under my breath, and the fashionistas around me narrow their eyes!!!

Opulence and decadence, we're at a BIG show! There are so many unbelievably lovely women here, my head is spinning around like a fashion owl. Carolina Herrera has called us to hunt! The show begins with the bugle cry from some far away country estate, and the most impossibly tall model emerges with riding pants, a wool coat and a Robin Hood hat with full-on feathers. There are some yellow jodhpurs tucked into the sickest of sick double-layered boots. The colors are grayish blue, mustard, rust, brown, licorice, and a rich-rich chocolate. It is all so opulent. A silver threaded tight vest over a long silk chiffon skirt is lovely. Gowns worn with fur vests, printed silk chiffon of birds and such. Hunting capes in brown, check. I see red carpet affairs, a mustard yellow chiffon gown with a signature striped grosgrain ribbon tied to one side in back, and a floor-length silk brown number with a long feather threaded through the bustle. (That would be a bitch to sit on during the Oscars!)

But the thing that remains embedded in my mind is one felt hat with the loooongest feather ever trailing behind the model. It was beautiful and a fantasy.
