"As for the clothes, they looked cheesy and dated, as has often been the case chez Ungaro during the post-Emanuel revolving door of designers. Hot pink, orange and flashy, with an overworked heart motif relentless in its execution, the collection displayed none of the promised younger side Lohan was supposed to deliver. Nor in a million years would one guess that the lineup was designed by one young woman and 'creative directed' by another. Glitter heart pasties all around, ladies?" --WWD
Our fab friend at Kalimocho, Becci Vallis, presents her awards as London Fashion Week packs up its finest for another season What a week it's been, six days and 107 shows with rants, raves and even redundancies, but I wouldn't have wanted it any other way. So, before I go off to hibernate for 6 weeks (and then do it all over again) here I present you the Official* Kalimocho London Fashion Week awards--from the best show to the funkiest soundtrack.
THE AWARDS
After much scrutiny and examination, here we present to you the Official* Kalimocho Fashion Week Awards. Drum roll please...
BEST SHOW: Burberry
It might sound predictable but for anyone who was lucky enough to see the show will understand why Burberry wins this award. Attracting a star-studded audience, the return of Christopher Bailey on the British catwalks was triumphant. Sending models down the runways in a swirl of pastel pink, lavender, beige, gold and silver, the mac was back after having a nip and tuck treatment, while micro-minis and sequinned dresses shone out at the audience. Not abandoning Burberry's military roots, cavalry belts, high-heeled combat boots and criss-cross knotted tops also stood out as popular pieces.

Our fab friend at Kalimocho, Becci Vallis, gives us the scoop on hair and makeup trends spotted on the final day of London Fashion Week You thought crimping was back, it is now, and it's all down to the hair at Jeremy Scott.
Big, beautiful and swapping bows for bones, if you like volume you'll love this, just don't forget the mousse and dry shampoo.
At Burberry the hair was a complete antithesis to the wild and wonderful weaves at Scott, but complemented the clothes just as well.
Natural, pretty and perfectly groomed, hair was divided into a centre parting and blow dried straight, but not straight enough so the hair lost its movement.
Young, fresh and easy to recreate, steer clear of straighteners and don't be afraid to work with your hair's natural kink.

Our fab friend at Kalimocho, Becci Vallis, catches up with Jeremy Scott's outlandish show, a surprise A-list appearance at Fashion East, and more at Day 5 at LFW
The penultimate day of Fashion Week will mostly be remembered for the day that Burberry made a return to the runways with a show that no doubt go down in fashion history.
But not one to be muted by veteran fashion labels, eccentric US designer Jeremy Scott also caused a stir with what can only be described as a collection inspired by the Flintstones!
Sanwiched between Peter Pilotto and Erdem (who, for a third season running has been awarded British Fashion Council Fashion Forward sponsorship) Scott's kooky show marks his debut appearance at LFW despite launching his first clothing line back in 1997.

Our fab friend at Kalimocho, Becci Vallis, catches up with L'Oreal's Jo Cree Brown and James Kaliardos--beauty wizards behind the Fashion Fringe, and more
For a show to be considered a success at Fashion Week it's as much about who sits in the front row as it is the designer's latest collection, which is why today, I just couldn't resist sharing my super celeb spots as I went about my daily business.
The most impressive of them all, (and I think you'll agree), came courtesy of Jaeger London where the one and only Anna Wintour was in residence.
I'd already heard rumours that she'd attended Luella just hours before, but to see her sitting opposite me dressed in a snakeskin jacket and sporting her trademark shades can only be described as surreal (check out my not so subtle photography skills above right).

The minute the first look came down the runway, I literally swooned. Really--I did. I might characterize the collection as "granny chic" ... but in the best possible way! What do you think, fashionista?
The Milly girl sure wears lots of beads, drapery-like fabrics, sateen and chiffon--yes, all things grandma might love. However, the garments were created in such a way that they're crazy chic, very pretty and still flirty--so not grandma-like. Every single look from Milly by Michelle Smith's spring 2010 collection can be a party outfit, that's for sure.
I know this past weekend I said that Lacoste was my favorite showing thus far during this round of collections... After seeing Milly, I changed my mind!

It was all about femininity at Rebecca Taylor's spring 2010 runway show. No surprise here--neutrals, pastels and bold colors will be hot come spring. Such colors will come in forms of polka dots, stripes and florals. Okay, kind of predictable... Even still, Rebecca Taylor's collection was divine and showcased ready-to-wear fashions for the frilly working girl. Looks like ruffles aren't going anywhere!
The only disappointing thing I saw on the catwalk at this particular show was the pair of harem pants! I was hoping the ill-fitting legwear was just a passing fad that we can swear off as a major mistake in spring 2009. Ugh!

Athough it's only day 3 of Fashion Week, I think I just came face to face with my favorite collection of the upcoming spring. Enter, Lacoste. I'm no stranger to the brand--I've always loved the sporty, preppy style. But what made this particular collection so interesting to me is that it was really frilly and sporty at the same time.
The ladies' pieces retained Lacoste's usual simplicity (of basics and bright solids), but added a little sprinkle--that "sprinkle" being stripes, dotted patterns, light jackets to die for, and a hint of beachy. I can see myself wearing any of these looks during a stroll along the French Riviera. (A girl can dream, can't she?) Le sigh.
There's no denying that I'm a huge fan of The City's Whitney Port--as a fashionista, as a reality star, as a designer, as a human... She's just so sweet, talented and pretty.
Anyway, you can imagine my excitement to see the young designer's Whitney Eve spring 2010 collection, which really was "made with love" (as its slogan reads)...

Whitney Eve shared the runway with Nicholas K and Mara Hoffman, but I will have to say that her creations stole the show. Mixing gold and silver metallics with airy dresses and shorts, the frilly and girly line has just made me super-duper-excited for spring. I wasn't a huge fan of the "feminine" boyfriend-style blazer with the slim pants though (sorry, Whitney!)--I think it sort of took away from the other romantic pieces she showed.

I woke up today to a crisp autumn day (although it's not officially fall yet). Fashion Week is in town and fashionistas are congregating to see what'll be hot come spring 2010. It's hard to think about what we'll be wearing next year when we're still trying to figure out what to sport this season, right?
At either case, we shall try...
Our first Fashion Week stop: BCBG Max Azria. Ahhh, one of my favorites! From abstract prints to asymmetry, the BCBG runway show was full of twists and turns--not to mention, some looks that are sooo ready-to-wear (for a cocktail party, that is). Max Azria also made use of bold colors, geometry and sheer. I can't wait to see how these pieces will transform for the rack.

Rock Fashion Week is in full swing at the Fontainebleu Resort in Miami Beach, FL and I was lucky enough to be in attendance. There's a great energy in the air (maybe it's the Florida sun and amazing accommodations?) and just watching what the people walking around the resort are wearing is like a fashion show in it itself. Lots of skin showing in Miami!
Out of all the shows I've seen so far the one that stood out for me the most was from Dallas-based designer Abi Ferrin. Her Fall 2009 collection was funky yet classy and showcased a wide variety of textures like silk, lace and knits. Check out this video of the finale walk of the show:
While some of the designs were clearly made for the catwalk and not the sidewalk, the collection as a whole was totally cute. Lots of separates that could be easily mixed and matched with others from the line (or from your own closet!)
The other thing to note about Abi Ferrin is her message: Fashion with Freedom & Purpose. Ferrin believes in empowering women across the globe. She works with rescue organizations in Nepal and Cambodia to train women who are rescued from the sex trade industry and provide them with positive alternatives. How's that for girl power?
Abi Ferrin designs can be found in select boutiques across the country or on AbiFerrin.com.
