So Close! Crocs Just Won't Go Away
For a split second, fashionistas thought we were Croc-safe. The makers of the popular plastic clogs were on the rocks with financial trouble months ago. Even though the company sold over 100 million pairs of shoes in a matter of seven years, the company had lost $185.1 million last year, slashed roughly 2,000 jobs and scrambled to find money to pay down debt. We thought the ugh-ly footwear was on the outs. We predicted that Crocs would disappear within a handful of years with the halt of production and the already-bought pairs inside unfashionable people's shoe closets being forgotten or eventually disintegrating into thin air...So close! Thanks to PNC Financial Services Group, Inc., Ysolt says sarcastically, the fashion-crime-of-a-shoe won't be as short-lived as some of us had hoped. A bail-out for the biggest fashion crime of the millenium? No, PNC, no!!!
Other style mavens are with me. Fashionista, Annie Lam, has some major beef with the unsightly footwear. Her rant: "I guess they're okay for downtime, but I'm not a huge fan whatsoever! It's like with Uggs--they are super-comfy, but they are LAZY shoes. Even my sister who is an RN at a teaching hospital wears Crocs--they're a hit there. I think they make one ugly, short, fat and lazy. And, they are EXPENSIVE! Dang pastel plastic--and give me a damn break on those Croc Candies (the accessory clips on the Croc holes). What a great marketing ploy! Moms and kids went crazy for them because 'they are cute.' Hello Kitty is cute. Not ugly plastic mules."
Where do you stand? Please tell me you're on our side?! You're not happy about the Crocs bail-out, are you?

I'm with you! I am convinced these hideous contraptions are proof of Satan's existence. *lol*
Don't get me started on how folks feel the need to make these shoes (and I use the term loosely) even uglier by wearing socks with them.
Unfortunately, they are still all the rage in the part of California where I live. No one's immune - kids (would outfitting your child with a pair constitute child abuse?, grown folks (as if they don't have enough to deal with) and old people (they deserve to live that stage of their lives with dignity!)
Yes, they are ugly, and I would never wear them myself. However, I LOVE them for my boys (toddlers) because they are so easy to slip on and off, and easy to clean. So, for now, I'm glad Crocs will continue to produce shoes.
They're definitely ugly, but there are times when nothing will do but Crocs. In the garden, on the dock, running around doing errands in the rain (when you don't want to mess up your nicer shoes)... the mark of a confident woman is being able to wear what she darn well pleases, when she wants, where she wants -- and not give a hoot about what other people think.
So, writer who wants to be a "fashionista," who are you trying to please, and why are you so worried about what others put on their feet?
I am personally glad that they are still going to be around. I have a muscle disorder that makes my feet and legs very sore. I am on my feet all day long. One of the only brands of shoe that I can wear and be comfortable is Crocs. They aren't the most fashionable, but for some of us with medical disablities, they are absolutely necessary!! BTW I am not old either, I am 26!!!
Anyone who suffers from plantar fasciitis knows that Crocs are life savers. Fortunately, Crocs' online store offers styles that are easier to live with.
Let's be honest. Crocs are what is wrong with the world today. If we could just get rid of crocs, I'm pretty sure we'd be well on our way to achieving world peace.
Looks ugly, but even I have 2 pairs...

Ugh, I hate them! Crocs and Uggs are some of the ugliest footwear ever made, yet I see them everywhere! What is WRONG with people?
I don't see what the appeal of Crocs are as well. I remember when I went to visit a friend in the hospital, just about every nurse had a pair of Crocs on. I understand that they may be comfortable, but wouldn't a pair of nice tennis shoes be just as comfortable and not look so silly?
The only people that I can see wearing Crocs are little kids because they are easy to slip on and off and actually look kinda cute on them.
