Plus-Size Love

plus-size-love.jpgResearch shows that 62 percent of all American women (18 and older) wear a size 12 or larger. With that said, it's a wonder to me that the plus-size market is still often overlooked in the media. Nancy LeWinter, a plus-size fashion expert from OneStopPlus.com (a plus-size webmall), agrees. "Fashion is fashion no matter what your size [is]," she says.

Amen to that, Nancy!

I also have to applaud Harper's Bazaar Australia. In a recent issue, the magazine featured an editorial spread with plus-size model Crystal Renn (who's a size 12). The pictures highlight her voluptuous curves and celebrate her uber-sexy figure.

Just gorgeous!

It's too bad no one makes nice clothes for fat women like myself. It's all larger versions of the skinny girls' clothing which we look TERRIBLE in. Horizontal stripes, sleeveless tops, etc are all things fat women should NEVER wear.

Fashion may be fashion no matter what your size but different body types need different clothing. And right now it's like trying to put a very large and very round peg into a very small rectangle's hole!

There is absolutely NO WAY fat women today can look good when NO ONE makes good looking clothing for us!

Oh please, 12 is a plus? Give me a break! Was Marilyn Monroe a plus size? I think not! The stick figures called models that designers use are unrealistic and malnourished. Does anyone recall the string of fainting models on Project Runway? Scrawny models just save the designers money on fabric and sadly give young women an unrealistic body image!

I had to comment on this because it touched a tender spot.

I'm a plus sized woman (and I don't consider a 12 to be plus sized!). I shop at OneStopPlus.com although I would shop there more often. I have complained to them that the models in their catalogs and online at NOT plus sized models but are typical clothing model in size 2's or something like that. They keep telling me that if they showed the clothing on a plus sized model, people wouldn't buy the clothes. I beg to differ. Lane Bryant uses plus models and seem to be doing just fine. I would buy a lot more if I could see that the outfit would look good on my size 20 body, not on a size 2.

I am offended when a plus size catalog in print or online says that I won't buy clothes modeled by plus sized women.
