Trend Or Foe: Forties Fashion

moschino_jacobs_40s.jpg

Are you ready to become a pinup girl for spring? The forties are back with a vengeance – partially because Dita Von Teese has been at the forefront of the fashion world with her Betty Page look and partially because the eighties have been beaten to death already!

There are a couple of ways to wear this – short shorts, day dresses and hostess dresses which back in the day were fancy gowns that you entertained in at home. The last one makes me scream – imagine decking out in a full on frock only to serve up a roast you cooked? Hilarious.

I love this trend – no, sorry. I love looking at this trend. Wait, let me revise again – I love looking at this trend in magazines. Will I wear it? Not on your life.

How do you feel about it?

I am not all for this forties trend. If I am supposed to look like Dita for work everyday, there's no way I'll do it. But for a more playfull aproach, such as that beige dress with flat boots, yeah, I am in, after all, I've been in for some time now. :)

I feel this could be easily done the wrong way, and wind up looking extremely costumey. But done appropriately...the 40's were the best years for women's fashion...glamourous, attractive cuts, sexy, feminine, and sophisticated. I'm all for that, bring it on!

I love the 40s look! It's so feminine. It rocks!

It's really cool

Fashion has become so predictable. Nothing new about the trends here. Where are the "new" things? Maybe we need some carbon free clothing or at least something that speaks to what's going on in the world today instead of yesteryear.

Forties fashion, unfortunately for the runway, requires forties fat. The swimsuit on the right would look great on Dita -- she's got some curves. But on that girl -- she's so skinny it's ghastly!

I do enjoy these 'modest' styles, better than the 'bare all' I see today. But don't these models look ridiculous? Models in the 40's were curvy and sensuous women, not stick thin and bony.

Katie said:

Not all of the women were volumptuous, and there are many of us who are thin and beautiful...naturally. So, get over the skinny models already! 40's fashion has always been inspiring. It's classic, sexy, and fun. I have been sporting it for years, now it might be easier to buy if it is coming into style again! Bring it on! Femininity is back.

carolinemtx said:

I agree with Dee Dee. Bring on the fashion, but let's also bring back the curves, especially on the models.Come on girls, let's be curvy and proud of it! As long as your healty and eat right!

megan said:

you can be skinny and healthy you don't have to be "curvy". just because the models are skinnier then you doesn't mean they are "stick thin and bony" maybe your just fat.

OK ladies!! Simmer down already, I thought this was about The 40s style, not all of your low self esteem issues!!! Anyhow, I think the 40's style is bangin. It reminds me of how women should really be portrayed, like lovely, feminine, cute, seductive and very confident women, the way I know all of you whom are arguing over who's fat or not are really meaning to be. Don't worry, all of us other cuties will take care of the handsome fellas while you girls argue!! TA TA!!

I love 40's fashion, I think it's sexy, feminine & classy. And-it looks good on skinny & curvy women alike!

I agree that 40s fashion should really only be done by girls that are healthier looking. You can certainly be skinney and healthy AND curvy and healthy but those models are not naturally skinney like that and they are by no means healthy . I love the forties fashion and I cant wait to find it more easily in the stores!

If you didn't go overboard it could be cute, but I do not like the costume look.

The 40 "s styles were for all women and gave shape and defined women as beautiful, sexy and mysterious...my dad said WW2 pilot "women need to wear clothes that keep the gentlemen guessing and attentive not bored...I have found out he was right...what man wants a "man woman or unedentifiable asexual human?

Please can someone tell me where I can get those shoes? The one's that the model's wearing on the left? If you don't know it's fine, but if you do.. Please tell me! They're gorgeous.
And i love this fashion, just needs people to fill it out although the girl on the left looks nice in that dress. :] And the shoes lol :].
